ICC shares statement on alleged mistreatment of squads stranded in India amid Middle east crisis

International Cricket Council (ICC) has denied the mistreatment of squads stranded in India after the T20 World cup 2026.
The teams of West Indies and South Africa were stranded in India for more than a week following the tournament.
The tournament final was held between India and New Zealand on March 8, which India won retaining their title.
However, other teams faced issues struggling to return their homes as airspace in the Middle Eastern region has been affected due to the ongoing US-Iran war.
Cricket West Indies claimed on Tuesday that their team had waited nine days for a charter flight that was “repeatedly delayed”. They called the situation “increasingly distressing”.
ICC released a statement denying the claims saying it “rejects any suggestion that these decisions have been driven by anything other than safety, feasibility and welfare”.
“We understand that players, coaches, support staff and their families who have completed their ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 campaigns are anxious to return home.”
The West Indies team’s tournament ended on March 1 meanwhile South Africa was knocked out on March 4.
