Fresh trouble for Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ as streaming deal pulled
Uncertainty around Vijay’s last film release resulted in Amazon Prime Video stepping back from its streaming deal
What was supposed to be a big celebration for fans of Tamil star Vijay is now running into more trouble.
His upcoming film Jana Nayagan is still stuck. And now there is another setback.
According to several media reports, Amazon Prime Video has stepped away from its streaming deal for the film.
The platform had earlier bought the post-theatrical digital rights for around Rs 120 crore.
But the deal has now been revoked. The reason, reports say, is the ongoing uncertainty around the film’s release.
Right now, there is still no clear timeline for when Jana Nayagan will actually reach theatres.
The delay seems to be linked to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The board has not yet given the film its censor certificate.
Reports say the CBFC had objections to some scenes in the film. These scenes were believed to be sensitive in nature. Because of that, the film has been sent to the CBFC’s Revising Committee.
A screening for the committee was supposed to take place on March 9. But it did not happen. Reports say it was cancelled at the last minute after one of the committee members fell ill. That pushed the review process further.
The film is directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions.
It stars Vijay in the lead role. The cast also includes Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani and Narain.
Jana Nayagan was earlier planned for a January 9 release. But the film is still waiting for certification. And for now, its theatre release date remains unclear.
