The family of late Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor has taken a rare legal step, and it is about protecting his name.
Sources say the Kapoor family has secured rights over how the actor’s name can be used. This means it cannot be used freely anymore. Especially for business, promotions or public projects.
A source said, “As per the copyright, anyone wanting to use the name Rishi Kapoor or mention it in any capacity would need prior permission from the family.”
The move was done to stop any misuse of the late actor’s name. Or attempts to make money using it.
It's pertinent ot mention, Rishi Kapoor died on 30 April 2020. He was 67. The actor had been fighting leukemia for some time.
He was one of Hindi cinema’s most familiar and beloved faces. During his career spanning nearly five decades, he worked in more than 150 films.
Many remember him for the romantic hit Bobby. Later, he also did strong character roles. Films like Agneepath, Kapoor & Sons and Mulk are often mentioned.
These days, more celebrity families are taking such steps. They want control over how a famous name or image is used. Especially after a star’s death. It is meant to stop unauthorised merchandise, brand deals or projects.
