Lizzo reveals surprising connection between her first Grammy and personal life
The 'About Damn Time' singer shares candid insight into her past and personal choices
Lizzo, born Melissa Viviane Jefferson, has opened up about losing her virginity, revealing it was tied to a unique personal condition.
During a recent episode of the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, the 37-year-old singer and rapper shared that she had long delayed the experience, tying it to a major career milestone.
"I was a late bloomer. I lied about it for a long time," Lizzo said, revealing that it happened in 2020, the same year she earned her first Grammy.
The Juice hitmaker explained, "Isn't that crazy? I wasn't even thinking about it... I promised myself when I was younger that I wouldn't have sex until I won a Grammy."
She added with a laugh that it didn’t exactly happen on the night of the awards, but shortly afterward.
"I feel a weight off of my chest right now," Lizzo continued "It was so embarrassing. I was in a friend group of girls. We were all girling one night and it was like, 'Wait, Lizzo are you a virgin?'"
"I remember it was so embarrassing. I said, 'I love the D.' I said that. And it held me over for a little while," she added.
When did Lizzo have her first kiss?
Elsewhere in the wide-ranging conversation, the About Damn Time singer also revealed she had her first kiss at 21, calling the experience "terrible."
"Ya'll have no idea. It was religious for me too. Like, when we were teenagers at my church, we all made a pact that we wouldn't do anything before marriage. And then, I was just so scared. Like, nobody wanted to kiss me," she noted.
Who is Lizzo dating currently?
Lizzo has been romantically linked to Myke Wright since around 2021, with the couple going public in 2023.
The pair have known each other for years, having previously co-hosted Wonderland on MTV in 2016.
