Indian actor Abhishek Bachchan shared how a single mentor shaped both his life and career. 

The actor recalled his school days when a Canadian coach and drama teacher, known to students as Dr. Dan and officially named Desmond Hahn, taught him lessons that stayed with him through the years.

Speaking with Lilly Singh, Abhishek said, “For me, it's about trying to make a difference and be of some help. Sports has taught me everything in my life. I had a great basketball coach, who was also my drama teacher. His name was Desmond Hahn, and he was one of the most influential figures in my life. I'm still in touch with him. And the one review I fear most when my film releases is Mr. Hahn’s review.”

The Guru actor explained how Dr. Dan emphasized life lessons through sports. “He taught me never to give up and showed me the importance of sportsmanship. You need to show grace in victory and strength in defeat. If you’re down two points with three seconds left, it isn’t over until the final whistle. He also taught me when to play defense in life and when to play offense. Lean on your teammates when you need help. Even though in boxing you are in the ring alone, you also rely on the support of your brothers and sisters walking shoulder to shoulder with you.”

Abhishek added, “Everything about sport can teach you so much about life. Many times, I think back to his lessons and ask myself how I would have played a game. For me, sports has been one of the greatest teachers.”

Even decades later, Abhishek continues to follow the rules he learned from Dr. Dan, always awaiting the one review that matters most to him.
