Bo Lueders dies aged 38 as music world pays tribute
Bo Lueders guitarist for Harm’s Way and co-host of the HardLore podcast has died at the age of 38 prompting an outpouring of grief from the hardcore music community.
His death was confirmed on April 2 in a joint statement shared by his band and the podcast’s official social media accounts.
“It is with heavy, broken hearts that we share that our beloved Bo Lueders has passed away,” the statement read.
“He will be remembered for his unwavering empathy and compassion for his friends & family and his magnetic, inimitable presence on & off the stage.”
No official cause of death has been publicly confirmed. However the message included resources for those struggling with mental health suggesting Lueders may have died by suicide.
“We’re not in this alone,” the statement added, alongside information for crisis support services.
Lueders was a founding-era member of Harm’s Way joining the Chicago hardcore band around its formation in 2006.
Over nearly two decades the band became a defining force in modern hardcore and metal releasing five studio albums between 2009 and 2023.
Their 2018 record Posthuman was widely praised and featured on several “best of the year” lists within the heavy music scene.
Lueders remained active with the band through 2025 touring extensively and preparing for upcoming shows later this year.
Beyond music Lueders was also known as the co-host of the HardLore podcast which he launched in 2022 with Colin Young of Twitching Tongues.
The podcast became a respected platform within the hardcore community featuring in-depth conversations and stories from touring musicians.
Young paid tribute in an emotional message following Lueders’ death.
“I will love, mourn, and celebrate you forever,” he wrote.
“This beautiful thing we built together was the greatest honor of my life… my only solace is knowing that we documented a lifetime of memories.”
Tributes continue to pour in from fans and fellow musicians many remembering Lueders not only for his contributions to music but for his kindness and presence within the scene.
