Bill Lawrence is already looking ahead as Shrinking approaches a turning point with its third-season finale.

The showrunner has teased that season four of the Apple TV+ series will take a bold new direction, describing it as a “new story” that retains the same ensemble cast.

According to Lawrence, the series was initially mapped out as a three-season arc centred on grief, forgiveness, and moving forward, themes that are now set to conclude with the current season.

He explained that the upcoming instalment will serve as a creative reset, calling it both “risky” and exciting, as it shifts away from the established emotional storyline to explore new territory for its characters.

Expanding on the idea in a response to a fan, he noted that the team had always planned to “stay true” to the original arc, adding, “So excited to do Season 4 and a new story with the same cast.”

The Apple TV+ comedy-drama stars Jason Segel as therapist Jimmy Laird, alongside Harrison Ford as his mentor Dr Paul Rhoades, with a supporting cast that includes Christa Miller and Jessica Williams.

The season three finale is scheduled to air on April 8, setting the stage for the show’s next chapter.
