'Dhurandhar 2' crosses Rs 1000 crore in India, breaks new ground
On its 18th day alone 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' earned Rs 34.44 crore
A Hindi film crossing Rs 1000 crore in India alone was once considered rare. Now, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has written history by achieving this milestone in just under three weeks.
Directed by Aditya Dhar and led by Ranveer Singh, the spy thriller reached Rs 1,013.77 crore (net) domestically in just 18 days.
It is the first Bollywood film to hit that mark without relying on overseas earnings.
Box office figures show no real slowdown. On its 18th day alone, the film earned Rs 34.44 crore, keeping its pace steady into the third week.
The film now sits close to the long-held record of Baahubali 2, which collected Rs 1,030.42 crore in India. That gap is narrowing quickly.
There has also been reaction from within the industry. Actor Rana Daggubati, whose film once dominated the charts, said: “It’s good. It’s a decade later, but it’s still very good. I think we’re all still touching the tip of the iceberg."
Beyond India, the film has already moved past Baahubali 2 in the United States market.
Attention is now shifting to another target, Pushpa 2, which holds a higher lifetime total.
Apart from Ranveer Singh, Dhurandhar 2 also features R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi coming back.
The first film showed Ranveer as an Indian spy who goes inside gangs in Lyari. He is trying to take down a terror network targeting India, while also moving up inside Pakistan’s underworld.
In the second film, the story goes back and shows where his character comes from. It follows Jaskirat Singh Rangi and how he slowly turns into the spy Hamza Ali Mazari.
