Dove Cameron teams up with Kathryn Newton in new thriller
Dove Cameron and Kathryn Newton to star in upcoming thriller
Marking her feature directorial debut, Roxy Sophie Sorkin brings her own script to life with the indie thriller Hot Year, as per Deadline.
56 Days star Dove Cameron and The Society actress Kathryn Newton will be joining the cast alongside Euphoria alum Storm Reid, Succession’s J. Smith Cameron, and Wednesday actor Owen Painter.
Production is expected to start in Oklahoma in May.
In regards to the movie, Roxy explained, "Hot Year is an exploration into brutal honesty and boiling, seething, grotesque womanhood."
“It’s a movie I wish I had held dear when I was 18. It’s a forehead kiss and a spit in the face. Be prepared to wear fairy wings and bring Fireball,” she added.
Set in a haunting Pacific Northwest town gripped by an unforgiving heatwave, Hot Year follows two lifelong friends whose revenge plot against an ex spirals into irreversible violence. Over one intense night, they’re forced to confront the fallout as trauma, loyalty, and identity collide.
Production is led by Jordan Wagner for Wagner Entertainment and Christine Vachon for Killer Films, joined by Evan Silverberg and Dylan Conklin of Entertainment 360, along with Ilya Stewart for Hype Studios.
“Roxy has a really distinct and exciting voice as a filmmaker,” Jordan stated as per the outlet. “It’s a bold script, emotional, but also fun and unpredictable in a way that feels fresh. Hot Year taps into something very real about friendship and identity at that age, and I think audiences are going to really connect with it. We couldn’t have asked for a better cast to bring this to life, and I’m really looking forward to seeing Roxy bring this world to the screen alongside an incredible group of artists.”
