Aubrey Plaza has embarked on a new chapter as she prepares to embrace motherhood with her boyfriend, Chris Abbott, a year after the tragic death of her husband, Jeff Baena.

On Tuesday, April 7, the 41-year-old actress and comedian shared the joyful news with PEOPLE through her representative.

In a statement to the outlet, Plaza’s spokesperson confirmed that she and Abbott are expecting their first child together.

Following the passing of her estranged husband, the Dirty Grandpa star is set to welcome her first child with her new partner this fall.

“It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year,” an insider shared. “They feel very blessed.”

Plaza and Abbott first sparked a connection while working together on the psychological thriller Black Bear, before reuniting in 2023 for the Off-Broadway revival of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea.

The pair kept their relationship private following their Broadway run, only going public after being spotted showing affection in the summer of 2025.
