American TV show Stephen Colbert is struggling to leave his show, which is set to end in May.

Stephen has been hosting the The Late Show since 2015 and will be bodding farewell to his decade-long stint soon.

In 2025, it was announced that the show will end after its 2025-26 season.

He spoke about the farewell on Tuesday’s episode with guest Oprah Winfrey, who switched places with him to let him talk about the big departure.

The 61-year-old said “I still have a white-knuckle grip on all these people who I love, who I've worked with all these years, including those people over there.”

He further added “The audience is very pure in their engagement of our conversation... The audience members are listening and reacting.”

The show host is now moving onto the new project, which is the writing of the new Lord of the Rings film Shadow of the Past.

Previously, Stephen admitted that with the passage of time, the show’s ending started to “feel real”.

The show’s fate was announced in July 2025 which came shortly after Stephen criticised parent company Paramount's $16 million settlement with President Donald Trump.
