Valeria Perrine’s official cause of death turned out to be acute cardiopulmonary arrest, also known as sudden cardiac arrest, according to her death certificate.

PEOPLE obtained the death certificate of the Superman actress, which confirms the underlying cause of death is Parkinson’s disease. Perrine was first diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2015.

In addition to that, the Los Angeles Department of Health also shared that another contributing factor in her death is dementia.

On Monday, March 23, Perrine’s close friend, Stacey Souther, shared the news of her death in a Facebook post, which was also shared on the actress’s page.

“It is with deep sadness that I share the heartbreaking news that Valerie has passed away,” she wrote. “She faced Parkinson’s disease with incredible courage and compassion, never once complaining. She was a true inspiration who lived life to the fullest — and what a magnificent life it was.”

Stacey added her love in the post with a red heart, saying, “The world feels less beautiful without her in it. I love you, Valerie. I’ll see you on the other side.”

She confirmed that the actress “passed away peacefully at her home" while she was "surrounded by love, exactly as she had wished.”

“After more than fifteen years waging a quiet, courageous battle against both Parkinson’s disease and debilitating central tremors, the luminous, vivacious woman finally rested,” Souther concluded.

Perrine passed away at 82, and Stacey also created a GoFundMe campaign for Perrine’s funeral.
