The biggest box office run of the year is now facing a legal problem after a plagiarism claim, as Dhurandhar: The Revenge keeps earning strong numbers, a dispute over music rights has arisen.

Production company Trimurti Films has filed a lawsuit against filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s banner B62 Studios. The issue is about the use of the old song Tirchi Topiwale in the film.

The song originally appeared in the 1989 film Tridev

It was co-composed by Kalyanji–Anandji with lyrics by Anand Bakshi. Now, Trimurti Films claims that a similar version has been used in Dhurandhar's sequel without proper permission.

According to reports, the film uses the track partly in a new song, Rang De Lal, with fresh vocals and lyrics.

The version has been remixed by Shashwat Sachdev. But the company says this still counts as “unauthorised reproduction and communication of the work to the public.”

Trimurti Films has asked the court to stop further use of the song and is also seeking damages. It has also raised concerns about the track being used across theatres, streaming platforms, and promotions.

The legal fight comes at a time when the film is doing very well commercially, crossing Rs 1000 crore in India.

Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film follows Ranveer Singh as Jaskirat Singh Rangi, showing how he turns into Hamza Ali Mazari. The story goes into his rise in Lyari’s underworld while working on a larger mission.

The film also features Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt and others.
