Asha Bhosle, widely regarded as one of the greatest vocalists in modern Indian music, has passed away at the age of 92, leaving the entertainment industry in mourning.

According to Hindustan Times, the veteran musician was rushed to Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai after battling a chest infection and exhaustion, and was later moved to the ICU on Saturday night, April 11.

Sources told the outlet that Bhosle had been going through a challenging period over the past few months and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

The Sharara hitmaker’s son, Anand, confirmed the devastating news on Sunday afternoon.

Bhosle’s last rites are scheduled for Monday, April 13, at 4 pm at Shivaji Park Crematorium, with fans able to pay their respects at her residence from 11 am onwards.

Born in 1933, the music icon began her musical journey at the age of nine. She recorded her first film song in 1943 and rose to prominence in Bollywood by the 1950s, remaining in high demand for decades.

Asha Bhosle’s career milestones

Bhosle, the younger sister of the late Lata Mangeshkar, won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer seven times and received two National Film Awards for Dil Cheez Kya Hai (Umrao Jaan) and Mera Kuch Saamaan (Ijaazat).
