Athiya Shetty’s tribute post for Asha Bhosle draws criticism
Athiya Shetty faces backlash on social media after image mix-up on condolence post
A social media post meant as a tribute for legendary singer Asha Bhosle has instead drawn attention for the wrong reasons, placing Athiya Shetty at the centre of an online backlash.
The 33-year-old former actor, and daughter of Suniel Shetty, shared an Instagram story mourning the veteran singer's death on Sunday.
However, users quickly pointed out that the image used was of Lata Mangeshkar, who died in 2022.
The post was deleted shortly after, but screenshots spread widely. Many online criticised what they described as a lack of care.
One user wrote, "Athiya Shetty Is Beauty Without Brains She posted a story with photo of Late Lata Mangeshkar instead of Late Asha Bhosle. Nepo kids just want to be relevant somehow, without hardwork or struggle and that's why their movies flop and they make such blunders."
Another said, "It’s really sad to see how careless people can be on serious matters. Athiya Shetty shared a photo of Lata Mangeshkar ji while mourning Asha Bhosle ji is not just a small mistake, it shows a lack of attention. The least one can do is check before posting, especially in such moments. Just post a simple condolence message if your basic knowledge is zero."
Others reacted more bluntly. "Is this girl crazy, what is she posting, this is Lata ji, not Asha ji," one wrote.
Athiya Shetty has not publicly addressed the mistake. She later shared another post mourning Asha Bhosle.
Asha Bhosle, one of the legendary playback singers in Bollywood, passed away at the age of 92, after multiple organ failures, leaving the showbiz industry in deep pain.
