Sunny Deol’s ‘Gabru’ postponed, new release date to be announced
Sunny Deol’s ‘Gabru’ delayed; official announcement expected soon
The blockbuster success of Gadar 2 brought Sunny Deol to a new level of stardom. The box office performance of Jaat demonstrated that Gadar 2 achieved success because the film was not a random occurrence.
The veteran star began 2026 on a rocking note with the Rs. 300 crore plus grosser Border 2. The audience now holds high expectations for his upcoming project Gabru. Fans must wait additional time to watch the emotional drama because its release date has been postponed from May 8.
A source told, “Gabru has been postponed and won’t arrive in cinemas on May 8. The makers plan to lock the new release date in a few days after which they’ll make an official announcement.”
The movie Gabru which was scheduled to premiere on March 13 was moved to a new release date of May 8 because the holy month of Ramzan fell during that time and the highly anticipated film Dhurandhar The Revenge was set to release six days later on March 19.
Shashank Udapurkar directed Gabru while Vishal Rana produced the film. Bollywood Hungama first reported that Salman Khan would appear in an entertaining and extended role in the film during November 2025.
At that time a source told us, “There was a requirement of a star and the makers knew that Salman Khan fit the bill completely. Salman was approached and he loved the part and its contribution to the film. He quietly shot the film more than a year ago and it has shaped up well. His cameo in Gabru is all heart. It is adorable and also highly entertaining. He has 3 scenes in total and hence, it’s an extended special appearance.”
The May 8 time period is occupied by the movies Aakhri Sawal and Dadi Ki Shaadi. The first movie shows Sanjay Dutt and Neetu Chandra and Namashi Chakraborty and Amit Sadh and Sameera Reddy and Tridha Choudhury while the second film stars Kapil Sharma and Neetu Kapoor and Sadia Khateeb.
The upcoming release schedule for Gabru remains uncertain because multiple important mid sized and large films are scheduled to debut between June and August. Sunny Deol's highly anticipated film Lahore 1947 will premiere in August.
The project which Aamir Khan produces and Rajkumar Santoshi directs will lead to the upcoming movie. Sunny’s other confirmed release in 2026 is Ramayana. The movie will debut on Diwali which will show the actor portraying Lord Hanuman.
