Marvel president Kevin Feige has spoken about casing Robert Downey Jr as Victor Von Doom aka Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday.

Directed by Russo brothers, the new MCU film brings in Downey as the villain this time.

Following the trailer launch of the movie at the CinemaCon, Kevin shared the reason why he thought of casting the Iron Man star as Doom.

The first and foremost thought that they all had was Robert played an iconic superhero in every MCU so far, so let’s just have him play the villain this time.

Feige stated, “RDJ played the most iconic hero. Let’s have him play the most iconic villain.”

He further revealed that they made the decision during the time when Downey was winning the Oscar for Oppenheimer.

“There was every story about the greatest actor in the world, and we thought this could be it. Let’s do it”, Kevin told Entertainment Weekly while adding, “It’s our universe. It’s a multiverse. We can do whatever the heck we want.”

The statement comes after the team promoted the upcoming action sci-fi at the CinemaCon, where Chris Evans also showed up . 

The much-anticipated film of the year is coming to theatres on December 18, 2026.

It will be reuniting the OG Marvel cast Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston.
