Yash defends 'Ramayana’s' global style for western audience
He said the aim was to present the story in a way that could also connect with global viewers
At CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas, Indian actor Yash shared details about the upcoming film Ramayana, which was presented to international audiences for the first time.
The film was directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra. It marked one of the biggest Indian film projects to be introduced on a global platform.
Yash, who played the role of Ravana in the film, spoke about the scale and creative approach of the project during media interactions at the event. He said the aim was to present the story in a way that could also connect with global viewers.
The Kirataka actor stated, “Since we have global ambitions, we need to make it familiar to a Western audience as well.”
The film was based on the ancient epic Ramayana, which told the story of Lord Rama and his battle with Ravana after the abduction of Sita.
The Masterpiece actor had explained that he had tried to make his character more human in approach. He said, “I have tried to internalise the essence of Ravana and make him as human as possible.”
Yash also explained through a discussion that he received the role of Ravana in Ramayana because of his previous work with producer Malhotra on Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups which they both worked on together.
Revealing how his gangster film helped him land a role in the epic two part saga he shared with Fandango, "I just wanted to take his (Namit Mahotra) company's advice and wanted to put out something magnanimous and also a great visual experience for the audience around the world. So that's when we met and that turned into Ramayana but I should tell you that Namit and DENEG have been a major part in Toxic as well."
Ramayana Part 1 is set to release globally on Diwali 2026. The film will feature music by AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer and will carry Ravie Dubey in the role of Lakshman.
