Avengers: Endgame is set for a theatrical re-release with new footage, as filmmaker Joe Russo confirms plans to expand the story within Marvel’s upcoming narrative arc.

The update follows earlier announcements during CinemaCon, where the Russo Brothers revealed the re-release but did not disclose details about the additional material.

Speaking at the Sands Film Festival in Scotland on Saturday, April 18 , Russo confirmed the new scenes will connect directly to Avengers: Doomsday. 

“It’s critically important to re-release the movie, and, in fact, we’ll be re-releasing the film with footage that is set in the Doomsday story that we have added to Avengers: Endgame,” he said. 

He added that the move offers “an opportunity to create a bridge from Endgame to Doomsday in a very unique way.”

Russo further described the project as a rare chance to revisit a major box office hit, noting that re-releases are uncommon due to cost. 

He said the added footage will help “enhance the story of Doomsday” while continuing the journeys of characters audiences have followed for years.

The re-release is scheduled for September 25 and is expected to serve as what Russo called a “critical companion story,” setting up events ahead of Avengers: Doomsday, which is slated for release in December.
