Christopher Nolan draws parallels between 'The Odyssey' and 'Comic Book' films
'The Odyssey' stars Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Tom Holland
The Odyssey’s new trailer has been making rounds on the internet, bringing Christopher Nolan on the forefront of showbiz following the success of Oppenheimer.
The Greek epic based on Homer’s poem of the same name features Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Tom Holland and Zendaya.
While talking about the upcoming movie on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the host brought up how his cast members including Anne, Robert and Tom have been a part of the superhero films.
This led to Nolan drawing parallels between the ancient Greek epic and the Comic Book franchises.
According to the Interstellar director, “Even comic book culture, whether you’re talking about Marvel or D.C. or all the rest, a lot of it comes directly from the Homeric Epics.”
“The thing about Homer is, nobody knows if that was a person. Homer, in a way, is the sort of George Lucas of his time.”
The 55-year-old Academy Award winning director says that Homer is the Marvel of its day.
The Dark Knight creator added, “The thing about Homer, it is the Marvel of its day. It’s very directly this desire for us to feel or believe gods could walk amongst us, and I think the modern comic book is kind of our expression of that.”
The Odyssey trailer has created an Oscar buzz already months before the film’s official release.
The new Christopher Nolan movie is set to release globally on July 17.
