Robert Downey Jr’s casting as ‘Doctor Doom’ was one 'drunken' mistake
Marvel president discloses first choice for Doctor Doom in 'Avengers: Doomsday'
Robert Downey Jr was not initially supposed to play Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday.
The 61-year-old has been the most vital part of Marvel Cinematic Universe since the first movie Iron-Man in 2008. He has played the superhero until Avengers: Endgame.
This time, he has been taken on-board for the new film as antagonist Doom, whose aim to is to rule over the multiverse.
However, the truth is that Downey was not the first choice for the character.
President Marvel Studios Kevin Feige recently shared the reality behind the casting of Robert as Victor Von Doom.
According to him, Cillian Murphy was originally cast for the role of Doom, but it was just a matter of one drunken text that changed the entire casting.
As per the reports of Entertainment Weekly, Feige confessed, “Not gonna lie, we originally cast Cillian Murphy, but after Ant-Man bombed, I drunk texted RDJ. So now we’re stuck with it.”
Internet is exploding with reaction over Kevin’s bold confession as one of them wrote, “So that he fully acknowledges that it is a mistake and that he did it totally drunk.”
Meanwhile, other are disappointed to hear that Oppenheimer star's chance to be a part of MCU was snatched.
Another internet user wrote on X, "Damn, Kevin Feige, Robert Downey Jr. is cool, but he's already had his moment in the MCU, but I really wanted to see Cillian as Doctor Doom, you had the knife and cheese on hand."
Avengers: Doomsday is set to reunite Downey, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth on big screens on December 18.
