British TV star Simon Cowell has opened up about the day he found out Liam Payne had passed away and the aftermath of the tragic news.

The One Direction star was staying in Argentina on vacation when he fell from his hotel room balcony and was pronounced dead soon after the fall.

Simon, who was the band’s mentor during their time on X Factor UK in 2010 said he had to “disappear” after the tragedy.

Speaking to the Daily Mail’s Tales From the Celebrity Trenches podcast, he spoke about the grief.

“What do you do in a situation like that? It was so bad, I was in pieces. There were so many things going on in my head.”

He added, “I literally just disappeared somewhere for a week to think everything through because I knew I was really, really struggling.”

Liam’s death sparked chaos when it happened in October 2024 which was followed by his funeral that was attended by his bandmates and industry peers.

Simon along with Zayn, Louis, Harry and Niall attended the funeral in November 2024.
