Kim Kardashian nearly suffers wardrobe glitch before Met Gala 2026
Kim Kardashian nearly faced a last-minute wardrobe disaster ahead of her 13th Met Gala appearance just moments before stepping onto the red carpet.
The reality star attended the 2026 event on May 4 in a sculptural metallic breastplate ensemble, created by artist Allen Jones in collaboration with design duo Whitaker Malem and creative director Nadia Lee Cohen.
The intricate piece was designed as a bold interpretation of the “Costume Art” theme, blending fashion with conceptual artistry.
However, behind-the-scenes footage shared by Vogue revealed just how fragile the look was. In a TikTok clip, Kardashian is seen reacting after accidentally knocking into part of the outfit, prompting immediate concern.
“Did I break this?” she asked while touching the cone-shaped breastplate. “I ran into it so hard. If I broke it or chipped it...we wouldn’t have had a Met look. I would’ve had to cancel.”
Despite the scare, Kardashian proceeded with the event without further issues, later sharing a vlog of her preparation and red carpet experience.
Her look was completed by her longtime glam team, including hairstylist Chris Appleton and makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic.
The incident highlights the risks associated with high-concept fashion at the Met Gala, where elaborate designs often push the boundaries of practicality.
Kardashian has previously dealt with similar challenges, including her 2023 Schiaparelli look adorned with thousands of pearls, some of which detached during the evening.
Her 2026 appearance once again underscores the delicate balance between fashion innovation and functionality on one of the industry’s most high-stakes red carpets.
