Hugh Jackman showed up when his friend Blake Lively needed him to avoid a wardrobe malfunction during the fashion industry’s biggest night, the 2026 Met Gala.

On Wednesday, May 6, during his appearance on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, the Australian actor reflected on an iconic evening at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Specifically, he recalled the moment with Another Simple Favour’s star's issue with her massive archival Atelier Versace gown from spring 2006, which she accessorized with custom Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

"There was another cool moment — I'm literally, as I'm saying it, thinking maybe you shouldn't say this — but Blake, my good friend Blake Lively, goes, ‘Dude, I need some help with the dress. I think there's a hook in there,' ” Jackman shared, gesturing toward his chest. 

Adding to the moment, he made sure to address Ryan Reynolds, Lively's husband. 

“And I'm like, ‘OK,' I'm like, ‘Ryan [Reynolds], is this cool? Checking. Are we good?'" Jackman said.

Jackman was referring to Lively’s husband of 13 years, Ryan Reynolds, who starred alongside him in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). The two share a long-running friendship marked by a playful, ongoing rivalry.

Lively did not attend the event with Reynolds while Jackman appeared on the red carpet with his partner, Sutton Foster.
