'Dhurandhar 2' OTT release update emerges amid court case
The matter surfaced during a court hearing connected to the film’s climax song
A legal update linked to Dhurandhar 2 recently brought attention to the film’s expected OTT release plans, even though the makers had not announced an official streaming date yet.
The spy thriller, directed by Aditya Dhar and starring actor Ranveer Singh, had continued its strong run in theatres weeks after release. Reports stated that the film was expected to arrive on JioHotstar after completing its theatrical window.
The matter surfaced during a court hearing connected to the film’s climax song. According to reports, filmmaker Rajiv Rai had raised objections over the use of a recreated version of the song Tirchi Topiwale in the movie.
The remixed track, titled Rang De Laal, had been composed for the film by Shashwat Sachdev. Rajiv Rai reportedly claimed that the song had been used without proper authorisation.
During proceedings in the Delhi High Court, mediation between both parties reportedly did not lead to a settlement. Reports stated that Super Cassettes, which held the music rights of the film, opposed the request for interim relief.
Meanwhile, B62 Films informed the court that Dhurandhar 2 was unlikely to arrive on OTT platforms before mid-May. The statement reportedly matched the usual eight to ten-week theatrical window followed by many major releases.
The film had completed nearly eight weeks in cinemas since its release. Reports also mentioned that the first Dhurandhar film began streaming around eight weeks after its theatrical debut.
Dhurandhar 2 featured Ranveer Singh in the role of an Indian spy. The cast also included Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt and Sara Arjun.
As of now, the makers had not shared any confirmed streaming release date for the film.
