The legal fight over the famous song Tirchi Topiwale is now moving towards a full court hearing after mediation between the two sides failed in the Delhi High Court.

Filmmaker Rajiv Rai had accused the makers of Dhurandhar 2 of using the old hit song from his 1989 film Tridev without permission.

The court had earlier asked both parties to try mediation and settle the matter quietly.

But on Wednesday, the court was informed that talks did not work out. The matter will now be heard again on Friday, May 8.

The original song, sung by Sapna Mukherjee and Amit Kumar, was one of the biggest hits of the late 1980s.

In Dhurandhar 2, the track appears in a remixed form called Rang De Lal. The version was recreated by Shashwat Sachdev and plays during an important scene featuring Ranveer Singh and Rakesh Bedi.

Rai has claimed the issue is bigger than just a soundtrack dispute.

Speaking earlier to a publication, he said, “This is a theft. Yeh poori chori ban jaati hai. Aur aap isko dusri picture mein dalte hai alter kar ke, toh woh double chori hai.”

The Delhi High Court later told Rai not to make public allegations while the case remains under consideration.

Meanwhile, Dhurandhar 2, directed by Aditya Dhar, is still running in theatres.
