Maine Pyar Kiya star Bhagyashree has revealed why she was paid significantly more than co-star Salman Khan for the film.

The actress, widely known for her role in the 1989 hit, recently reflected on the economics of the film industry as she took a trip down memory lane.

In an exclusive interview with Zoom, she spoke at length about how a lot of thought goes into choosing actors based on the value they bring to a project.

Explaining the 'science' behind casting actors, she noted: “It depends a lot on supply and demand. It is a simple business when we talk about money. A woman might put in hard work, but if the producer or director feels that she is replaceable by someone else who is offering a better price, then they will stick to the price they are willing to pay that particular actress.

“At that point, the actress would have to decide whether she is willing to let go of the work coming to her and let someone else take it. Unless women in general come together and say this is what we are supposed to get paid, it is not going to happen.”

In addition, she noted that the industry operates like a regular business model.

On the professional front, Bhagyashree has recently worked in films including Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and Raja Shivaji.
