Cardi B and Stefon Diggs’ initial breakup reason has been revealed amid ongoing reconciliation buzz.

According to PEOPLE, the 33-year-old rapper distanced herself from the 32-year-old NFL star earlier this year after feeling that he was hiding things “behind her back.”

At the time, Cardi was reportedly too emotionally overwhelmed to confront the situation.

“Cardi pulled away from the drama in February. She didn't trust him and felt like things were going on behind her back. She wasn't in a place emotionally to deal with fighting and tension,” an insider told the outlet.

During the rough patch, Cardi was also so busy with her headline-grabbing Little Miss Drama Tour. She wanted “to just finish” the tour and maintain “stability for her kids.”

Despite the difficulties, the Grammy-winning rapper “never closed the door completely" on Diggs because she still cared deeply about him.

The tipster further revealed that the  footballer later “stepped it up a few ago and showed her that he wants to make it work.”

The pair were first linked in October 2024, with rumours intensifying after they were spotted together on Valentine’s Day 2025.

They appeared to make their romance official in May 2025 and welcomed a son together in November of the same year.

However, just months after welcoming their child, Cardi B and Stefon Diggs sparked breakup speculation during the 2026 Super Bowl in February.
