Jennifer Lopez is opening up about the easy connection she shared with Brett Goldstein while filming their upcoming romantic comedy Office Romance.

On Wednesday, May 13, speaking with PEOPLE at the Netflix Upfront in New York City, Lopez reflected on her experience working with the Emmy-winning Ted Lasso star in the highly anticipated project.

“We had great chemistry to begin with,” Lopez said. “It just grew as we did the film together.”

Lopez admitted she went into the project with certain expectations about Goldstein, only to be pleasantly surprised by his off-screen personality.

“I expected more of a rough guy, but you get this kind, gentle but also very smart person that is so charming. That was a surprise, I think,” she explained.

The Hustlers star added that she was already familiar with Goldstein’s Emmy-winning work in Ted Lasso, particularly his fan-favourite character Roy Kent.

“I was a huge fan of his from him doing Ted Lasso. Roy Kent, that's one of my favorite characters,” she said. “I thought he was going to be more like the character, but he was so soft-spoken and sweet and totally different.”

In Office Romance, Lopez plays Jackie Cruz, a high-powered CEO who unexpectedly falls for her newly hired employee Daniel Blanchflower, played by Goldstein. 

Their workplace relationship soon turns into a secret romance that pushes them to “stop playing by the rules and start following their hearts,” according to the official synopsis.

The film is set to stream on Netflix starting June 5, adding another glossy rom-com to Lopez’s long list of genre favourites.
