Mindy Kaling explains why she now prioritises health over appearance
The 'Office' star gets candid about dramatic shift in weight-loss mindset
Mindy Kaling has opened up about how her perspective on weight loss has significantly changed over the years.
Speaking with Bustle, the 46-year-old actress and comedian shared that she now prioritises fitness and maintaining a healthy weight for long-term wellness and being present for her children, which she said is the complete opposite of her previous mindset.
"When I was younger, I would want to lose weight because of vanity reasons. Now I want to lose weight or have lost weight because I want to stave off things like diabetes," Kaling explained.
She added, "I had it on both sides of my family, and trying to avoid those kinds of things will, I think, help longevity for me, and that’s my goal."
Over the years, the The Office alum’s dramatic physical transformation has drawn widespread attention online, with fans discussing her appearance and wellness choices.
Kaling admitted she follows "very specific rules" about the parts of her personal life she shares publicly, including topics related to her body and children.
However, she also acknowledged that some fans may feel uneasy seeing someone they once related to change physically over the years.
"It’s sometimes no fun when one of your favorite actors loses weight. You have an idea of what they were like when you grew attached to them, and it made them endear themselves to you," the Never Have I Ever creator noted. "Of course, it’s never a joy to be scrutinized, but also I truly understand it, as someone who consumes pop culture."
