David Dhawan remembers working with Rishi Kapoor amid retirement rumours
David Dhawan shares working experience with Rishi Kapoor
David Dhawan recently recalled his first working experience with Rishi Kapoor ahead of the release of his upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai.
The 74-year-old director, who is known for creating a number of successful films in the industry, took a trip down memory lane to share about the late star.
During an exclusive conversation with his son Varun Dhawan, the Main Tera Hero filmmaker recalled how Kapoor first rejected to collaborate with him for Bol Radha Bol.
Speaking exclusively, he said, "Producer Nitin Mohan was my friend, and I was editing his film. This was also the time when I was directing Shola Aur Shabnam. Nitin saw seven reels of that film, and he told me that I will direct his film. He started a film with Rishi Kapoor and signed him. Rishi Kapoor, however, told him 'Yeh kisko Le Aaye, I will not do this, but Rishi Kapoor like the script, so Nitin told him that 'whether you do this film or not, David is going to direct.' The film's name is Bol Radha Bol."
Despite Rishi's initial resistance, the Karz star agreed to collaborate.
Later in the interaction, David further reflected on Rishi's attitude.
"After that, I became Rishi Kapoor's favourite," he added. "But he is like that, he was the guy who rags people, he ragged his son also.
It is pertinent to mention that the duo worked on some successful films, including Chshme Baddoor, Yeh Hai Jalwa, Yaraana, and more.
For the unversed, Rishi passed away in April 2020.
David's much-awaited film, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, which is currently facing allegations for reused copy rights, is slated for release on Friday, June 5.
