The Khalnayak universe moved forward with new updates as discussions around Khalnayak Returns continued to gain attention in the film industry.

Reports stated that Indian actor Sanjay Dutt had shown interest in bringing filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi on board for the project. The Dhurundhar actor had reportedly felt that Santoshi’s experience in mainstream cinema could have helped shape the sequel.

According to reports, Sanjay had also met the filmmaker and personally offered him the film. A source was quoted as saying, “Sanjay Dutt was keen that Rajkumar Santoshi should direct Khalnayak Returns.”

However, the report stated that Rajkumar Santoshi had declined the offer due to prior work commitments. He was reportedly busy with the post-production work of Lahore 1947 and other script development plans.

The source added, “He politely and respectfully declined the offer as he did not have the time to direct the film.”

Despite stepping away from the project, Santoshi had reportedly appreciated Sanjay Dutt’s gesture and also praised the new look of Ballu Balram in the teaser.

The upcoming film Khalnayak Returns had already created buzz after its announcement event in Mumbai. The teaser featuring Sanjay Dutt’s return as Ballu Balram had received strong reactions from fans online.

The original Khal Nayak released in 1993 and became one of the most talked-about films of its time.
