Ram Charan says hit films give actors more freedom in cinema
“Numbers are important”: Ram Charan opens up on box office pressure after 'Game Changer' setback
At a time when box office numbers have become the biggest talking point around films, actor Ram Charan says collections may not define an actor completely, but they do decide how much freedom stars get in their next project.
Speaking to ANI ahead of the release of his film Peddi, the Telugu star said that a successful film gives actors the confidence to take risks later.
“Good box office is related to the next film. You have the scope to experiment more. So numbers (box office) are important, but it's not the only thing,” he said.
The 41-year-old’s comments come at a time when conversations around box office collections have become louder than ever.
From production houses to actors, everyone now talks about opening numbers and worldwide collections almost daily.
Many people in the industry feel films are increasingly being judged by numbers instead of storytelling.
Last year, actor Manoj Bajpayee had called the obsession with collections “a monster”. He had warned, “Very soon, this monster is going to eat you up.”
It's pertinent ot mention that Ram Charan’s last release Game Changer failed to perform as expected despite huge hype around the film.
Now, all eyes are on Peddi, which releases on June 4.
The film also stars Janhvi Kapoor, Boman Irani and Divyendu. Ram and Janhvi’s pairing has already drawn comparisons with the iconic screen pairing of their parents, Chiranjeevi and Sridevi.
