Indian actress Kiara Advani recently spoke about motherhood and the social pressure women often face after giving birth, highlighting how public attention quickly shifts from celebration to judgment.

In a conversation with Bombay Times, Kiara reflected on how pregnancy is often celebrated in public discussions, but the period after childbirth brings a different kind of attention for women.

She said, “The experience is so enriching in every way; I feel directors who will work with me now, will get the best version of me. This journey (of motherhood) has opened a new side to me, to my life and to my understanding of the world.”

The Kabir Singh actress also pointed out how conversations around women often change after delivery.

She added, “When you’re pregnant, everyone goes like, ‘Oh my God, you’re glowing…’ And the minute you’ve had a baby, it changes to, ‘Abhi moti lag rahi hai…’”

She further explained that the post-pregnancy phase is often the most difficult for women, as they need more support and understanding during that time.

She said, “When you are pregnant, you are this devi and the minute you deliver the baby, they expect you to be back in shape and back on track. But the hardest part for the woman is after.”

She also shared that motherhood is not only about raising a child but also about adjusting to a new identity.

“They say it takes a village to raise a baby. It takes a village to raise a mother,” Kiara added.

Earlier, Kiara Advani had unveiled her struggle with postpartum depression following the birth of her daughter.

While talking about her postpartum journey, she confessed that it took her six months to get out of it.

“It (motherhood) is such an identity shift. It is such a new world, and in that moment, it is difficult for the woman going through it to give herself grace.”

She advised all new moms to “give yourself grace because you are doing so much for everyone else that you forget about the relationship that you need to have with yourself.”

Kiara and Sidharth Malhotra welcomed their daughter Saraayah in July 2025. The couple later introduced her name publicly and described her as a “divine blessing.”
