'Off Campus' star Antonio Cipriano explains Logan’s biggest changes from books
'Off Campus' set to return for season 2
Before his season was postponed, Antonio Cipriano shed light on how Off Campus brought Logan’s story to life, including the major changes from the original book.
In chat with Us Weekly, the 26-year-old actor and singer reflected on the changes, saying, "What’s so great about the show and the adaptation is that all the writers had so much freedom to add so much more to these characters."
"The books are so POV driven between whoever is in their love story and there was so much more to play with,” he added. "You’re rooting for all of these characters.”
The Broadway star said he was excited at the chance to dive deeper into his character’s journey in his season.
"You get to know Logan as a brother, as a teammate and as a best friend before he finds that love,” he explained. “You get to follow him on this arc of finding himself and those days. I was really grateful to have that opportunity. Now we’ve met Grace so I’m excited for him to get to meet her in the show.”
Premiering on May 13, and adapted from Elle Kennedy’s book, the show dives into the world of an elite ice hockey team and the women connected to them, spotlighting Hannah (Ella Bright) and Garrett’s (Belmont Cameli) love story in its first season.
Alongside the main story, the show hinted at Allie (Mika Abdalla) and Dean (Stephen Kalyn) stepping into lead roles earlier than expected, even though they belong to the third book; a shift Prime Video has now officially confirmed, while Logan’s arc continues into Season three with Grace (India Fowler).
Speaking to the outlet, Antonio admitted that certain Off Campus changes could divide fans, especially the storyline where Hannah kisses Garrett’s teammate in front of him, which the show reworks from Dean in the book to Logan on screen.
"I know that some people are going to be a little upset about that one change. But honestly, for the story that we’re trying to tell and where Logan has that kind of spark with Hannah, it’s only going to feed the story a little bit more for his attraction toward her," he further added. "How that moment meant nothing to Hannah but everything to Logan.”
Continuing, "He appreciates her, and it’s all innocent and all love. I also think the addition of Jules and making him a middle child is really interesting,” he added. “It changes the dynamic completely. And I’m a middle child myself, so I feel like I knew exactly who this guy was.”
