Anne Hathaway reacts to shocking ‘mean girl’ labels after career high
'The Devil Wears Prada 2' star struggles as online hate reignites old wounds
Anne Hathaway has reportedly been left upset over "mean girl" criticism she has recently faced, despite the box office success of The Devil Wears Prada 2.
According to a latest report by Radar Online, the 43-year-old American has been making efforts to move past a difficult phase when she faced harsh online criticism and trolling.
"Anne has worked incredibly hard to move past that horrible period where she became the internet’s favorite punching bag," an insider said, referring to Hathaway’s negatively received Oscar night co-hosting gig in 2011 and her widely mocked Best Actress acceptance speech at the 2013 Academy Awards.
The source added, "For a long time, she genuinely felt she’d turned a corner, which is why this latest wave of criticism has been so upsetting."
Although Hathaway is at a strong point in her career, she still tends to be affected by negativity surrounding it.
"There's huge excitement around Devil Wears Prada 2, but instead she feels like the negativity is creeping back in all over again and taking some of the shine off it," the tipster revealed.
The Interstellar star will reportedly never forget the harsh backlash she received years ago after being called "fake."
The confidant further claimed that Hathaway panicked after seeing online users dissect her viral 2026 Met Gala photos with Blake Lively and accuse them of "mean girl energy."
"The thought of having to go through that all over again is terrifying. She's trying her best to rise above it and not let it ruin this happy time, but that's much easier said than done because she's very sensitive – and for good reason," the insider concluded.
