Camila Mendes on fulfilling dream working in ‘Masters of the Universe’
Camila Mendes made her dream come true with her first blockbuster role in Amazon MGM Studios' fantasy feature, Masters of the Universe.
The Brazilian-American actress stars as Teela, a skilled warrior who reunites with her childhood companion, Prince Adam/He-Man (Nicholas Galitzine), as the fate of Eternia hangs in the balance amid a looming threat from Skeletor (Jared Leto) in the live-action adaptation of the popular Mattel franchise.
Speaking to PEOPLE, Mendes reflected on landing the role in the upcoming action-sci-fi movie.
"More than anything, I had always dreamed of being in a superhero movie and I never imagined that an opportunity like this would come my way," she told the outlet.
However, the Riverdale actress noted that since different people have played the character for Marvel and DC, the role came to her with its own “set of pressures.”
"But it was really cool to enter this world that sort of has been untouched for a really long time, especially in the live-action space," she added. "And it was really cool to be able to bring these dormant characters to life again."
Directed by Travis Knight, Masters of the Universe is inspired by Mattel’s iconic toy line, which previously spawned the popular animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe as well as a live-action film featuring Dolph Lundgren in the lead role.
