Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow revisit Brad Pitt’s iconic ‘Friends’ cameo
Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow have looked back on one of the most talked-about guest appearances in Friends history: the cameo of Brad Pitt.
Pitt appeared in the Season 8 Thanksgiving episode titled The One with the Rumor, where he played Will Colbert, a former high school classmate of Ross Geller who was part of an “I Hate Rachel” club.
The episode aired in November 2001, during Pitt’s marriage to Aniston, who portrayed Rachel Green.
The conversation came up during Aniston and Kudrow’s appearance in Variety’s Actors on Actors series, where they reflected on the show’s tradition of high-profile guest stars.
"When Brad was on, that was hilarious," Kudrow said.
"I know. How funny," Aniston added. "The movie stars that came on Friends. Brad, Bruce Willis, Julia Roberts. Isabella Rossellini. We had so many — Sean Penn."
The pair also discussed how many of the celebrity guests arrived on set visibly nervous about performing in a multi-camera sitcom filmed in front of a live studio audience.
"They were always nervous. Remember? I always found it fascinating how nervous they were," Aniston noted.
Kudrow echoed the sentiment, explaining the challenge many actors faced transitioning into sitcom rhythm.
"Yes. Nervous. Well, because what's the tone? It's not theater; it's for TV. It's not a movie. What the hell is this? And it's a good question," Kudrow recalled. "And I remember someone asked one time. I didn't know how to explain it, so I said, 'Oh, just talk louder. Same intention, just —' "
Aniston completed the thought with humour: "Just louder!"
