Anushka Sharma’s homoeopathy post triggers online storm
The actor spoke about her own experience with homeopathy
A social media post by Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma has reignited a heated debate over homeopathy, with supporters and critics clashing online over her endorsement of the alternative treatment system.
The discussion began after the 39-year-old actress shared a video featuring homeopathic physician Rajan Sankaran and entrepreneur Namita Thapar.
In the post, the actor spoke about her own experience with homeopathy and credited Sankaran for influencing her health journey.
“Homeopathy played an important role in my life and Dr Rajan Sankaran has been a key part of that journey. I deeply value his insights on health and mindful living," she wrote.
The video itself focused on the idea of integrated healthcare. Sankaran argued that different medical systems should work together rather than compete with one another.
“Homeopathy doesn’t treat conditions, it treats people,” he said, adding that every medical system has strengths and limitations. “We are living in an era of integrated medicine. We are not here to prove the superiority or inferiority.”
But the actor’s endorsement quickly drew criticism from some medical professionals and social media users.
Hepatologist Cyriac Abby Philips, known online as The Liver Doc, was among the strongest critics.
Referring to Sankaran, Thapar and Sharma, he called them a “triangle of shame” and repeated his long-held view that homeopathic remedies lack active medicinal ingredients.
His comments were echoed by some users on X, who accused celebrities of promoting unscientific treatments to millions of followers.
One user said they were “retiring as a fan” of Anushka Sharma over the post, An angry fan wrote, "saw Anushka’s story, blood boiling stuff. promotes homeopathy on her page despite having such large following. why dont they go to a homeopathic/ayurvedic doc to get treated huh this is the reason why people come at such late stages of so many diseases when nothing can be done.".
Others, however, came to the actor’s defence. Supporters argued that treatment choices are personal and said Sharma had only shared her own experience, not medical advice. One user wrote: “There is something called Free will.”
Anushka Sharma has not publicly responded to the criticism.
