Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai has kicked off its theatrical run on a positive note. Starring Varun Dhawan in the lead, the romantic comedy arrived in cinemas on June 5 and has been receiving a largely favourable response from moviegoers.

According to trade estimates shared by Sacnilk, the film earned around Rs 11 crore worldwide on its first day. 

Of this, nearly Rs 9 crore gross came from the Indian market, while the overseas business contributed another Rs 2 crore, taking its opening-day total to Rs 11 crore globally.

The film, directed by David Dhawan, has also received encouraging reviews. 

Meanwhile, filmmaker Karan Johar recently shared an emotional message about David Dhawan and his latest release. 

Taking to Instagram, Johar revealed that the veteran director told him the film could be his final project behind the camera.

“Yesterday, when I went to Davidji’s celebration, he told me this was going to be his last film… I had a bittersweet reaction in my heart… here’s a filmmaker who is responsible for creating an entire Genre of films… A DAVID DHAWAN film spells entertainment!" he wrote.

the 54-year-old further added, “What must he feel saying this when he is an institution that so many filmmakers have taken forward as inspiration. He is LOVED and RESPECTED and CELEBRATED by our fraternity… There’s NO opposing that!!! Here’s to your summer blockbuster with your son….. DAVID DHAWAN… NO 1 man always."
