Mika Abdalla’s ex fiancé Jake Short has finally spoken out after their break up was confirmed, and after a resurfaced video of his controversial remarks about the Off Campus star recently went viral.

After the backlash online, the 29-year-old actor, who met Mika on the set of Sex Appeal, took to Instagram on June 6, to issue an apology.

"I made a disrespectful, juvenile joke in a clip that recirculated this week," he wrote in the post. "It’s imperative to me that I take accountability as I am aware it was inappropriate."

Continuing, "It’s not representative of who I am, or who I was in my relationship, but I continue to learn from this situation and work to show people the respect they deserve."

This message came shortly after Mika and Jake gave a statement to Us Weekly, saying, "“We’ve seen a conversation around clips of us together when we were in a relationship, and people making harmful and inaccurate assumptions about our dynamic."

Their statement referred to a resurfaced conversation from an episode of The Sit and Chat podcast, during which Jake Short made a joke about Mika Abdalla that has since been labeled controversial by some social media users.

In the midst of backlash, all the videos from the podcast have been removed.

Mika, 26, and Jake, 29, told Us Weekly that they shared a “loving, respectful relationship for five years,” adding that it feels “hurtful” to see their playful moments dissected online in a way they say misrepresents their bond.
