Tanmay Bhat jokes about Varun Dhawan’s ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ box office performance
Tanmay compared Varun’s film with the success of Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar franchise
Varun Dhawan recently joined comedian Tanmay Bhat on his YouTube channel, where their conversation quickly gained attention on social media. The October actor appeared on the channel to promote his newly released film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. During the chat, Tanmay jokingly trolled Varun over the film’s box office performance.
Tanmay compared Varun’s film with the success of Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar franchise. “The amount of hard work you are putting into promoting the film is commendable because it takes some kind of optimism to work this hard to get 1 per cent of Dhurandhar’s box office numbers,” he said.
The comment made Varun laugh, and he responded in good spirits, saying, “I think post Dhurandhar we are living with this weight ki bhai hum bhi kuch na kuch kar le (Brother, we also have to do something).”
According to the industry tracker Sacnilk, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai earned ₹8.33 crore on its third day in theatres. The film had opened with ₹7.50 crore on Friday and slipped slightly to ₹7.25 crore on Saturday. With its latest earnings, the movie reached a total India net collection of ₹23.08 crore, while its India gross collection stood at ₹27.53 crore.
The film released on more than 2,500 screens across the country, marking one of the widest releases for a Hindi comedy in recent years.
Despite this, audience turnout remained below expectations. Sacnilk reported that occupancy started at around 10% during morning shows and gradually improved through the day, with night shows peaking at 36%.
The Dhurandhar franchise, directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh, became the first Indian film series to earn over ₹3,100 crore worldwide.
