'Tanu Weds Manu' franchise gets new chapter, shoot planned for 2026
After more than a decade, Kangana Ranaut and R Madhavan's ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ heads back to the big screen
The makers of the popular 'Tanu Weds Manu' series have officially announced a third film. Titled Tanu Weds Manu: The Next Chapter, the movie is expected to start filming in 2026.
The announcement came from Eros Innovation which recently unveiled plans to bring back several well-known projects under its Eros Universe initiative.
An exact shooting timetable has not been revealed yet, but work on the film is expected to begin sometime next year.
Filmmaker Mitakshara Kumar, who has previously worked on The Empire and Heeramandi, will direct the project.
With the third instalment moving ahead, Kangana Ranaut is likely to return in a dual role once again.
In Tanu Weds Manu Returns, she played both Tanu and Kusum Sangwan, better known as Datto and received praise for her performance.
While there has been no official word on the story, there is speculation that the new film could take things further and feature Kangana in three different roles.
Since filming is expected to begin next year, more information about the plot, cast members and release plans is likely to emerge in the coming months.
The announcement has already sparked excitement among moviegoers who have been waiting years to see another instalment in the series.
The journey of Tanu Weds Manu started in 2011 with the release of the first film.
Directed by Aanand L Rai, the romantic comedy featured Kangana Ranaut and R Madhavan in the lead roles and performed well at the box office.
The sequel, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, arrived in theatres in 2015 and went on to receive a strong response from audiences.
