Ryan Reynolds opened up about a painful ordeal that changed his life in an instant.

The 49-year-old actor recalled spending four weeks in the hospital after a drunk driver struck him in the 1990s.

In chat with GQ on June 9, with Welcome to Wrexham costar Rob Mac, he recounted the scary time, sharing, “When I was 18, I left a bar and I'd had a beer."

Continuing, “I walked back and I looked at my car for a second. I thought, ‘You know what, I'm not going to drive anywhere. Even if it's four blocks home, absolutely not.’”

Even after making what he called a “firmly positive and wise decision,” he found himself facing an unexpected tragedy.

“Instead, I turned around, started to cross the street,” he revealed, “and I was run over by a drunk driver.”

The crash left the Deadpool star with devastating injuries, and he said he “broke every bone in my left side.”

"He hit me so hard,” Ryan continued, “his car was not operational.”
