Ryan Murphy’s adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ autofiction thriller The Shards set to premiere on FX and Hulu on August 5.

The dark coming-of-age drama, set in 1980s Los Angeles, centers on Bret (Igby Rigney) an aspiring writer whose life spirals after Robert Mallory (Homer Gere), who arrives as a serial killer known as the Trawler terrorizes teens across the Valley.

With Bret’s imagination spiraling out of control, his relationships with Debbie (Hayes Warner), Susan Reynolds (Kaia Gerber), and Thom Wright (Graham Campbell) also start to fall apart.

Senior year at an elite L.A. private school becomes increasingly erratic as the teens are pulled into a world of drugs and wealth, while the adults in their orbit, Terry Schaffer (Wes Bentley), Liz Schaffer (Evan Rachel Wood), and Steven Reinhardt (Jordan Roth), blur the lines between guidance and corruption.

The series is adapted from Bret Easton Ellis’ novel and executive produced by Ryan Murphy.
