Alia Bhatt, Sharvari's 'Alpha' draws comparison with 'Dune'
Netizens spot similarities between 'Alpha' and 'Dune' posters after teaser's resemblance to 'La Femme Nikita'
Since the teaser of Alia Bhatt and Sharvari-starrer Alpha was dropped, it has been surrounded by mixed reactions and different kinds of debates.
Some netizens are objecting to a 33-year-old actress playing an 18-year-old girl's character, while some are comparing it with other movies.
One such resemblance has been circulating on social media in the form of a video clip, where people are comparing the opening scene of the film with a scene from the French classic La Femme Nikita and alleging that it is copied.
A day after the teaser was released, the makers also dropped a poster featuring Anil Kapoor, Sharvari, Bobby Deol, alongside Alia Bhatt.
The poster presents the ensemble in a rugged and intense setting, with a sepia-toned, muted colour palette and a desert-like backdrop that sets a gritty, futuristic tone.
However, this has also drawn comparisons to the poster of Dune, starring Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac and Zendaya.
Many social media users pointed out that the composition, colour grading and overall mood of the image felt reminiscent of the sci-fi epic.
“I thought it’s a Dune 3 poster," wrote one netizen, while another commented, “So Dune coded, kwool poster btw," also sharing a collage comparing the Alpha poster with Dune side by side to highlight the resemblance.
“Just one AI prompt with Dune poster is enough to make this Alpha poster," wrote another netizen.
Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha is the seventh instalment of the YRF Spy Universe. The film, headlined by Alia Bhatt and Bobby Deol, also stars Sharvari and Anil Kapoor.
The teaser presents it as an origin story of Sita, played by Alia Bhatt, who is trained as an assassin by her father, played by Bobby Deol. It will release in theatres on July 3.
