'Adults' fans get surprise Prequel Episode ahead of season 2

'Adults' is set for August 27 return

Adults season 2 is set to arrive on August 27, but FX is already teasing fans with a standalone prequel episode set to debut on July 31.

Screened as a surprise at the Tribeca Festival in New York on June 11, the episode introduces the core friend group while revealing Paul Baker’s (Jack Innanen) origin story.

Written by series creators Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw and directed by Jonathan Krisel, “Marathon Day” will premiere on FXX and Hulu on July 31.

"We’re so excited for the opportunity to show fans how this friend group came to be," the creators stated. “We love a good origin story, and we can’t wait for you to see where the radioactive spider bit Paul Baker.”

Adults returns for Season 2 with all eight episodes dropping for streaming on Hulu.

Set in New York, the series tracks five twenty-something friends, Samir (Malik Elassal), Billie (Lucy Freyer), Paul Baker (Jack Innanen), Issa (Amita Rao) and Anton (Owen Thiele), as they navigate love, work, friendship and family while crashing in Samir’s childhood home.
