Suhasini Mulay has opened up about finding love and getting married for the first time at the age of 60, saying she had spent years waiting for the right person instead of settling down.

Speaking on Suhana Safar, the Lagaan and Jodhaa Akbar actor said she never found someone who shared her values until she met scientist Atul Gurtu through Facebook.

The 75-year-old said, "I married for the first time at the age of 60. Until then, I hadn't found the right match. My husband is a very well-known scientist. When he talks about science, I don't understand a thing, but he is a wonderful human being."

According to the Shatranj actor, she had joined Facebook after a co-star suggested it, hoping it might help her find work. 

While using the platform, she came across Atul's profile and contacted him out of curiosity because he was working on the Large Hadron Collider.

"I saw Atul's profile and thought, 'Physicists are on Facebook too?' He was working on the Large Hadron Collider. Since I have always been interested in science, I sent him a message asking, 'What is LHC?'"

The two began exchanging emails before Atul hinted that he was looking for a life partner. Suhasini admitted she was doubtful at first and carefully checked his identity before agreeing to meet him.

She further said, "We met at the end of November and spoke extensively. By January 16, we were married. Once we had made the decision, there was no point waiting."

Suhasini also recalled the reason Atul gave her mother for wanting to marry at 60.

"He said, 'Suhasini has lived alone all her life and can continue to do so. I can continue to live alone as well. But I want to give happiness a chance. If it doesn't work out, we will simply admit we made a mistake.'"

The actress said people judged her for marrying at 60 just as they had judged her for remaining unmarried in her younger years. The couple have now been married for 15 years.
