Chris Evert sidelined from Wimbledon plans following surgery over cancer concerns

Tennis star Chris Evert has shared update after surgery prompted by possible ovarian cancer recurrence.

The athlete underwent exploratory surgery after a routine CT scan raised concerns that her ovarian cancer may have returned.

The surrgery forced the tennis great to miss Wimbledon-related commitments in London.

As per The Athletic, she said “Unexpectedly, a recent, routine CT scan was abnormal, suggesting the ovarian cancer may be back. Surgery is recommended for further treatment.”

The 71-year-old was expected to attend Wimbledon and promote the upcoming Netflix documentary Chris & Martina: The Final Set alongside longtime friend and rival Martina Navratilova.

Instead, Chris remained in Florida, where she underwent surgery on June 23 after doctors recommended further treatment following an abnormal scan.

In 2021, the three-time Wimbledon champion was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Later in 2022, she underwent a preventive double mastectomy after discovering she carried the BRCA gene.

Just months after Navratilova finished treatment for throat and breast cancer, she learned that the cancer had returned.
