Katy Perry sparks nostalgia with 17-year-old costume revival on stage
The ‘Dark Horse’ singer blends nostalgia and philanthropy with vintage tour outfit revival
Katy Perry sparked major nostalgia among fans by rewearing a 17-year-old stage outfit while continuing her philanthropic efforts in support of a meaningful cause.
The 41-year-old American singer-songwriter recently launched a 21-day charity sweepstakes centered around archival costumes from her early career, with proceeds benefiting the Firework Foundation. Perry co-founded the nonprofit with her sister, Angela Lerche, in 2018 to expand access to arts education for underserved youth.
On Tuesday, June 30, Perry thrilled fans at Cardiff Castle in Wales by rewearing a red-and-white polka dot bra top and matching skirt she first wore during her July 7, 2009, performance at the Capital Summertime Ball.
Soon after taking the stage, the Dark Horse hitmaker took her Instagram handle to share a lengthy carousel featuring concert snapshots alongside then-and-now images of the vintage look, highlighting its return more than 17 years later.
“Learned a wee bit of Welsh. Good to see you again Cardiff and rydw i’n llwglyd ac hoffwn gael cebab,” she captioned the post.
According to fundraising platform Fandiem, the nostalgic polka dot ensemble is expected to raise around $1,000 through the charity campaign. Perry has also revived several other archival costumes during her European shows, including three outfits from her 2009 Hello Katy Tour.
The pop sensation plans to continue showcasing archival stage outfits throughout the remaining European dates of her Out of Office Tour.
